I want to have a 9 foot closet, in my 12 foot great room, but I can't get the ceiling to look right over the closet.
Creating a room which is not full height in a larger room with a cathedral of vaulted ceiling can be accomplishing using Half Walls.
To create a plant shelf closet
Select Build> Wall> Straight Half-Wall . Click and drag to place walls for the closet.
Once drawn, use the Select Objects tool to select a wall then click Open Object edit button.
Click the Newels/Balusters panel. Change the Railing Height to the height of the closet.
In this example, 96" is used.
On the Materials panel, select the Rail item and click on the Select Material button.
Specify the material for the rail as the same as the material for the wall.
Repeat steps 2-4 with the other closet wall.
To put in the ceiling for the closet
Click Build> Cabinet> Shelf and click in the closet to create the closet ceiling.
Use the Select Objects tool to select the shelf, then click Open Object to display the Shelf Specification dialog.
Set the Height, Width, Depth and Floor to bottom dimensions.
In this example, the Height is set at 1", the Width to 60", the Depth to 36" and the Floor to Bottom value at 95".
Click OK to close the dialog, and place the shelf so it sits inside the walls of the closet.
To place a door in the closet
Select Build> Door> Hinged Door , and click and place a door into the closet wall.
Notice that the door turned into a doorway, so select the doorway and click the Open Object edit tool to display the Door Specification dialog.
On the General panel select a Door Style.
In this example, a Louvered door style is used.
Change the Door Type to Hinged and set the Height of the door to the desired size.
In this example, the door is 80" in height.
Select the Hardware panel, and specify a door handle or knob as desired.
For the purposes of this example, use a Knob for the Interior and Exterior Handles set In from Door Edge by 2".
Click OK to close the dialog and take a 3D Full Camera view to see the result.
If you want to change the material of the Shelf, reopen its Specification dialog, and on the Materials panel, change it to match that of your interior walls.
Notice that there is a gap from the top of the door to the top of the half-wall.
To fill the gap above the door
Select Build> Cabinet> Soffit and click in front of the door to place a soffit in that location.
Use the Select Objects tool to select the soffit, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard to move the soffit into the space above the door, and use the edit handles on the soffit to resize it to fit the space.
With the soffit still selected click the Open Object edit tool to display the Soffit Specification dialog.
On the Generalpanel specify the Height and Floor to Bottom measurements.
In this example, the Height was set to 17" and the Floor to Bottom value to 79".
On the Materials panel, change the Soffit to match that of your interior walls that make up the closet space.
