QUESTION

I found a material in the library that I would like to modify and then use in different plans. How can I do this?

ANSWER

Materials in Home Designer programs can be edited so that they better suit your design needs.

The Adjust Material Definition tool is useful for quickly changing plan materials directly from a 3D view, however, changing a material's definition with this tool affects all objects in the current plan that are using this material.

If you wish to customize a material that you see in the Library Browser and make those changes available for use in other plans or for exporting, begin by creating a copy of the material and then modify it as needed.

To customize a library material

  1. Select View> Library Browser  from the menu to open the library.

    • In Home Designer 2014 and prior versions, navigate to Library> Library Browser.

  2. Browse to the library material that you would like to modify, right-click on it and select Copy from the menu.

  3. Browse to your User Catalog, right-click on it and select Paste from the menu.

    • Note that the copy has the same name as the original material.

  4. Right-click on the copied material which is now in your User Catalog and select Open from the menu. In the Define Material dialog:

    • Type a short, descriptive new name for the material.

    • Make any needed modifications to the material, then click OK.

  5. The new material is now saved in the library and is ready for use in any plan file.
