QUESTION

I have a room or structure in my drawing that I need to reverse, but I don't want to move it. How do I mirror rooms or other architectural objects, without first moving them?

ANSWER

By following either of the two procedures described below, you will understand how to mirror a room, and how to repeat this same procedure in your own drawings.

To draw a room

  1. Select Build> Wall> Straight Exterior Wall , then in your floor plan view's drawing area, click and drag out a basic four-walled rectangular structure to form a single room.

  2. Once the room is complete, draw a small bump-out on the left, or west wall of the structure.

Now that we have created our simple structure, we are ready to reflect it.

To reflect the structure using the Transform Replicate tool

  1. From the menu, select Edit> Edit Area> Edit Area . This will allow you to select everything on the floor you are on.

To select all objects on all floors of your drawing, choose Edit> Edit Area> Edit Area All Floors .

  2. Once you select Edit Area  your mouse will turn into a cross, and at this time you will need to select the objects you want to mirror.

Click drag to create a marquis, or selection box around the structure.

  3. Once you have created the selection box, a number of tools will display on your edit toolbar. Click on the Transform/Replicate  edit tool.

  4. In the Transform/Replicate Object dialog, place a checkmark next to Reflect, leave the radio button set at Horizontally ( Change: Left <--> Right ) and click OK.

For more information on the options available in the Transform/Replicate dialog, click on the Help menu located near the dialog's lower right to launch the software's context sensitive help on this feature.

  5. This will immediately reverse everything that was contained in the box drawn using the Edit Area tool.

The bump-out that was on the left wall will now be visible on the right wall, as the plan has reversed. The area within the marquis has not, however, moved from its original location.

To reflect the structure using the Reflect About Object tool

  1. Click CAD> Lines> Draw Line and draw a line over which the plan will be reflected.

  2. From the menu, select Edit> Edit Area> Edit Area . This will allow you to select everything on the floor you are on except the CAD line just drawn

To select all objects on all floors of your drawing, choose Edit> Edit Area> Edit Area All Floors .

  3. When the area is selected click the Reflect About Object  tool and move your cursor over the CAD line drawn in step 1. Notice the dashed line appears on top of the CAD line.

  4. Click the CAD line to flip the structure over that CAD line.
