I would like to hang a picture or a painting on a wall, but when I choose a painting in my 3D view and click to place it, it goes across the whole wall. How can I put it in a frame instead of apply the material to the entire wall?

Paintings, prints and photographs are materials that can be applied to wall and desk frames found in the Library Browser.

To create a Framed Picture

  1. Select View> Library Browser  to open the Library Browser.

    • In the Library Browser, go to Home Designer Core Catalogs> Interiors> Accessories> Mirrors & Frames and select the type of frame you want.

In Home Designer version 8 and prior, navigate to  Furnishings (Interior)> Interior Accessories> Frames and select the type of frame you want.

  2. Place the frame into the plan.

  3. Click the Select Objects  tool, then click on the frame and click the Open Object  edit button.

  4. Go to the Materials panel of the Furniture Specification dialog and select the Picture component.

Note: Some frame objects are designated as mirrors. These objects will have a Mirror material component instead of a Picture component, which can be changed from the mirror material to the desired artwork. Be aware that beveled mirrors will replicate the artwork material on the beveled surfaces as well as the primary mirror surface, and are not ideal for artwork materials.

  5. Click the Select Material button.

  6. In the Select Materials dialog, browse to Materials> Artwork and select the desired piece of artwork.

  7. Click OK to close the dialog and apply your change.
