Camera view displaying an open door and open window

ANSWER

Doors and windows can be displayed as open in 3D views by selecting the Show Open in 3D edit tool. The amount that the door or window is open can also be controlled within the object's Specification dialog.

It's important to note that the ability to display windows as open is only available in X17, Home Designer 2026, and newer versions.

To display open doors and windows in 3D

Using the Select Objects  tool, select a door or window that you want to display open in 3D, then click on the Show Open in 3D  edit tool located on the Edit toolbar.

To close a door and window from displaying in 3D, select it, then click the Show Closed in 3D  edit tool.

Note: The tools mentioned above directly correlate to the checkbox located on the Options panel of the Door and Window Specification dialogs.

To control the open amount of doors and windows

  1. Using the Select Objects  tool, select a door or window, then click the Open Object  edit tool.

  2. On the General panel of the Door or Window Specification dialog that displays:

General panel of the Door Specification where the Swing Angle can be adjusted

    • Specify the desired Swing Angle for Hinged and Shower doors, as well as Awning, Casement, and Hopper windows.

An angle of 0° displays the door or window as closed, while an angle of 180° displays it as wide open.

    • Specify the desired Percent Open for Slider, Pocket, Bifold, and Barn doors, as well as Single Hung, Double Hung, and Sliding windows.

    • This setting also affects how the doors and windows display in 2D floor plan views. An explicit setting must be enabled to display windows as open in 2D views. Please see the MORE INFORMATION section below to learn more.

    • One your desired value is set, click OK

MORE INFORMATION

  • By default, windows are not displayed open in 2D views. However, this can be changed by enabling the Show Open in 2D setting located on the Options panel of the Window Specification dialog. This setting is not available for Awning or Hopper windows.

  • If there is a specific Swing Angle/Percent Open setting that you would like to use for all of your windows and doors, or if you want one of the mentioned display settings to always be on/off, consider applying the changes mentioned in this article to your Default Settings
