A home that employs very thick walls, such as a straw bale, rammed earth or log home structure will have very deep windows. How can I change the placement of the window within the thickness of the wall.

Using the Window Specification dialog it is possible to recess the window so it is close to the inside surface of the wall or have it placed closer to the outside of the wall. You can change the exact location of a window by adjusting the Inset value for that window.

To specify a window's inset value

  1. If you don't already have a window in your plan, you can add one by selecting Build> Window> Window  from the menu.

  2. To place the window in your plan click one time on a wall, and the window will be placed there.

  3. Using the Select Objects  tool, select the Window, then click on the Open Object  edit tool to display its Specification dialog.

  4. Once the Window Specification dialog is open, go to the Sash panel.

  5. By erasing the current value for Inset, and entering a new value, you will be able to change the placement of the window within the wall.

  6. If, for example, you have a 24 inch wide wall, you can change the Inset value to 12, and once you click the OK button the window will be moved so that it is half way between the inside and outside of the structure.

  7. By experimenting with the Inset value, you will be able to place the window in the location of your choice.
