I would like to create a custom entertainment center, how can I model this in Home Designer?

Creating a custom entertainment center in Home Designer is easy using the a combination of the Cabinet tools.

To place and modify cabinets

  1. Select Build> Cabinet> Base Cabinet , and click in the plan once to place a single base cabinet.

  2. Use the Select Objects tool to select the cabinet, and click on the Open Object edit tool to display the Base Cabinet Specification dialog.

  3. On the General panel, use the Cabinet Style Type drop-down menu to select an appropriate cabinet type.

    • In the example above, we used a Right Radius End special cabinet type on either end of the Full Height Cabinet.

To learn more about different types of cabinets in this drop-down menu within your Home Designer software, select the Help menu button and click on Launch Help. Or in the older versions of the software click Contents and Index.

  4. The General panel is also where you can set the Floor to Bottom height of your cabinet.

    • If, for example, you created two base cabinets and wanted to stack one of top of the other, setting the Floor to Bottom Height of the upper cabinet as the Height of the lower will allow them to be stacked.

    • You can also move cabinets in a 3D view to stack them on top of one another.

  5. Select the Front panel to be able to configure the cabinet's door, drawer and shelf configuration.

While only Home Designer Pro will allow you to edit the configuration of shelves from within the Cabinet Specification dialog, you can specify an area as an opening an use the Shelf cabinet tool to manually place individual shelves within a cabinet.

  6. Select the Door/Drawer panel to adjust the door and drawer handles and their position, as well as the hinges.

  7. Select the Materials panel to set the appropriate materials for the various components of your cabinet.

  8. Once you have finished making changes, click OK to apply them and close the dialog.
