Most of my roof has an 8:12 pitch, but the shed roof over the porch has a pitch that is only 3:12. What do I need to do to automatically build a roof with more than one pitch?

You can quickly build an automatic roof based on the settings in the Build Roof dialog. If you need different settings for a particular roof plane in your plan, you can specify these special settings on the Roof tab of the Wall Specification dialog of the wall that this roof plane will bear on when built.

To specify a single automatic roof plane's pitch

  1. Open the plan file in which you would like to specify the pitch of a particular roof plane.

    • In this example, a simple rectangular structure is used.

    • A 75" deep deck runs the full length of one side, which is specified to have a Roof Over This Room.

    • The shorter side walls of the main structure and side railings of the porch room are all set as Full Gable Wall on the Roof panel of the Wall Specification dialog.

  2. Click on the wall or railing that the roof section you wish to change will bear on to select it, then click the Open Object edit button.

  3. On the Roof panel of the Wall or Railing Specification dialog, specify the desired Pitch.

  4. Check the box next to Upper Pitch and set this value. In this example, this is 8" in 12".

  5. Specify where to Start the upper pitch - by either specifying at what roof Height to transition from lower to upper pitch, or the measurement In from Baseline where the transition should occur. In this example, the porch room is 6'3" (75") deep, so this value is specified from Baseline.

  6. Select Build> Roof> Build Roof from the menu.

  7. In the Build Roof dialog, specify the desired default pitch for your roof, then click OK. In this example, a default Pitch of 8" in 12" is used - the same pitch as the Upper pitch specified in the Railing Specification dialog.
